Japan - お好み焼 むら Mura (DIY Okonomiyaki)

Initially we planned to eat Shibuya Gyoza but we queued for more than 30 minutes and the queue didn't move at all. So we gave up and decided to walk around Shibuya and look for other food. Then we saw this and were attracted by the window display.

The restaurant was packed but at least we were first in the queue. While we were waiting for our table, very quickly I realized that we went into an unusual restaurant where we have to cook on our own. :O Sounds pretty excited that our second meal in Shibuya was already so special yet challenging.

We ordered this Japanese rice cake with Ham & Cheese, 880 yen

Heat the grill plate with oil.

Put in chopped onions and vegetables, fry them.

Add in ham and fry them. You can season with some soy sauce or chilli powder as you like.

Put the rice cake on top of the fried vegetables and ham, cover it. Waited for 3 minutes, press and flip over the rice cake, cover and wait for another 3 minutes.

When it's ready, put the cheese on top of the rice cake and let it melt on its own.

Season with parsley and chilli powder.

I would say this was a very good experience for me to truly mix around with the local Japanese and learned how they prepared their local food. The food that were prepared by the chef was good, while for the DIY Okonomiyaki, it really depends on how you cook them. You can't blame the chef if is not nice anyway. Hahaha.
